Unlocked GSM Phones
What is an unlocked phone?
Many phones are made to work with SIM cards. These SIM cards are issued by cell phone carrier providers like AT&T (formerly Cingular) and T-Mobile to activate any phone they are put in.
A locked phone will only recognize a SIM card from a particular carrier. For example is I have an AT&T locked phone it will only accept SIM cards from AT&T, a Globe SIM card will not function in that phone.
An unlocked phone will recognize a SIM card from any carrier. If your phone is unlocked you can use SIM cards from multiple carriers.
Carriers use software to "lock" phones on to their network so that they are able to keep customers on their network and so they are able to subsidies the cost of the phone.
Is my phone unlocked?
The easiest way to tell if you phone is unlocked is to borrow a SIM from a friend that is from a different phone carrier then your own. If the SIM works in your phone then it is unlocked. If you get an error then you phone is not unlocked.
All SIM cards from FreePhilippineSIMcard.com are loaded and ready to go when they are shipped to you. If your free SIM does not work in your phone its probably because your phone is still locked.
How do I unlock my phone?
It is completely legal to unlock your current cell phone. Many local cell phone dealers can unlock cell phones on the spot. Just take your phone to your nearest dealer and ask them to unlock it for you. Remember this only works on GSM phones that have SIM cards.
